Other consequences include:
- Daytime sleepiness.
- Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA)
- Memory loss
- Cardiovascular disease
- High blood pressure
- Stress and depression
- Stroke
- Increased risk of trauma (Road Traffic Accidents for example)
Who Snores?
Anyone, although certain factors can increase the likelihood of snoring, such as: weight, age, gender, alcohol, smoking and sleeping position. It is estimated that over 45% of the population snores.
The Dentist’s Role
Enhance dental provides clinically proven mandibular advancement splints (MAS) to stop snoring which is considered the ‘gold standard’ treatment.
A MAS is an oral appliance which works by holding the lower jaw in a forward position to open the airway, maintain airflow. This can eliminate the ‘snoring’ sound, making for a better night’s sleep all round.
Mark Hanson has many years of experience in providing Mandibular Advancement Splints using Sleepwell, Somnomed and Somnowell.
